देवि सुरेश्वरि भगवति गंगे त्रिभुवनतारिणि तरलतरंगे।
शंकरमौलिविहारिणि विमले मम मतिरास्तां तव पदकमले॥१॥
भागीरथि सुखदायिनि मातस्तव जलमहिमा निगमे ख्यातः।
नाहं जाने तव महिमानं पाहि कृपामयि मामज्ञानम्॥२॥
हरि पद पादप तरंगिणि गंगे हिमविधुमुक्ता धवलतरंगे।
दूरीकुरु मम दुष्कृतिभारं कुरु कृपया भवसागरपारम्॥३॥
तव जलममलं येन निपीतं परमपदं खलु तेन गृहीतम्।
मातर्गंगे त्वयि यो भक्तः किल तं द्रष्टुं न यमः शक्तः॥४॥
पतितोद्धारिणि जाह्नवि गंगे खण्डितगिरिवर मण्डितभंगे।
भीष्मजननि हे मुनिवरकन्ये पतितनिवारिणि त्रिभुवन धन्ये॥५॥
कल्पलतामिव फलदां लोके प्रणमति यस्त्वां न पतति शोके।
पारावारविहारिणि गंगे विमुखयुवति कृततरलापांगे॥६॥
तव चेन्मातः स्रोतः स्नातः पुनरपि जठरे सोऽपि न जातः।
नरकनिवारिणि जाह्नवि गंगे कलुषविनाशिनि महिमोत्तुंगे॥७॥
रोगं शोकं तापं पापं हर मे भगवति कुमतिजालम्।
सीतारामविहारिणि गंगे त्रिभुवनतारिणि भवभयभंगे॥८॥

अर्थ: हे देवी! देवताओं की स्वामिनी, भगवती गंगे! तीनों लोकों का उद्धार करने वाली, चंचल तरंगों वाली! भगवान शंकर के मस्तक पर विहार करने वाली, हे निर्मल गंगा! मेरी बुद्धि सदा आपके चरण कमलों में लगी रहे।
O Goddess, Queen of the Devas, Divine Mother Ganga! You who redeem the three worlds with your playful waves. You who dwell upon Lord Shankara's head, O Pure One! May my mind ever remain fixed upon your lotus feet.
अर्थ: हे भागीरथी! सुख प्रदान करने वाली माता! आपके जल की महिमा वेदों में विख्यात है। मैं आपकी महिमा को नहीं जानता, हे कृपामयी! मुझ अज्ञानी की रक्षा करें।
O Bhagirathi, Mother, bestower of joy! The glory of your waters is renowned in the Vedas. I do not know your greatness; O Merciful One, protect me, the ignorant one.
अर्थ: हे गंगा! आप भगवान हरि के चरणों से निकली हुई तरंगिणी हैं, आपकी तरंगें बर्फ, चंद्रमा और मोतियों के समान धवल (श्वेत) हैं। मेरे पापों के भार को दूर करें और कृपा करके मुझे भवसागर से पार उतारें।
O Ganga, you are the river flowing from the feet of Lord Hari, your waves are as white as snow, the moon, and pearls. Remove the burden of my misdeeds and, by your grace, help me cross the ocean of worldly existence.
अर्थ: जिसने आपके निर्मल जल का पान किया है, निश्चय ही उसने परम पद प्राप्त कर लिया है। हे माता गंगा! जो आपका भक्त है, उसे यमराज भी देखने में समर्थ नहीं होते (अर्थात उसे यमलोक नहीं जाना पड़ता)।
Whoever has drunk your pure water has indeed attained the supreme state. O Mother Ganga, Yama (the god of death) is not able to even look upon your devotee (meaning, they are freed from the cycle of birth and death).
अर्थ: हे पतितों का उद्धार करने वाली जाह्नवी गंगे! आप पर्वतों को खंडित कर सुंदर धाराओं में बहती हैं। हे भीष्म की जननी, श्रेष्ठ मुनि की कन्या! आप पतितों का उद्धार करने वाली और तीनों लोकों में धन्य हैं।
O Jahnavi Ganga, redeemer of the fallen! You flow in beautiful streams, breaking through mighty mountains. O Mother of Bhishma, daughter of the great sage! You prevent the downfall of the fallen and are blessed in all three worlds.
अर्थ: जो आपको कल्पलता के समान फल देने वाली मानकर प्रणाम करता है, वह संसार में कभी शोक में नहीं पड़ता। हे गंगा! आप समुद्र तक विहार करने वाली हैं, और आपकी चंचल तरंगें सुंदर युवतियों के कटाक्षों के समान हैं।
Whoever bows to you, who are like the wish-fulfilling creeper (Kalpalata) in this world, never falls into sorrow. O Ganga, you wander to the ocean, and your playful glances are like the captivating side-glances of young maidens.
अर्थ: हे माता! यदि कोई आपके जल में स्नान कर ले, तो वह फिर से माता के गर्भ में जन्म नहीं लेता (अर्थात मोक्ष प्राप्त करता है)। हे नरक का निवारण करने वाली जाह्नवी गंगे! आप पापों का नाश करने वाली और अत्यंत महिमामयी हैं।
O Mother, if one bathes in your stream, they are not born again in a mother's womb (meaning, they attain liberation). O Jahnavi Ganga, dispeller of hell, destroyer of sins, and of supreme glory!
अर्थ: हे भगवती! मेरे रोग, शोक, संताप, पाप और कुबुद्धि के जाल को हर लो। हे सीताराम के विहार स्थल वाली गंगा! आप तीनों लोकों का उद्धार करने वाली और संसार के भय को भंग करने वाली हैं।
O Divine Mother, remove my diseases, sorrows, afflictions, sins, and the web of evil thoughts. O Ganga, where Sita and Rama roamed, you are the redeemer of the three worlds and the destroyer of the fear of worldly existence.
